LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL

I ve been a bad, bad blogger- I apologize to my 2 readers- but i saw both of you on sunday so doubt you're too upset.  I've been procrastinating doing this because an awesome friend of mine, Andrea, was going to help me make this blog super awesome in a way that a technophobe such as myself couldn't possibly imagine.

Anyway, Awesome Andrea has been delayed by that thing that happens while you're busy making plans and so the blog will be looking awesome-er soon-ish. That darn dash. 

Much love to Andrea across the globe- she reminded me how beautiful life, or moments of life, can be when it's at its toughest.

So here's as song that makes me smile and then another because it reminds me of my Dad which makes me smile and feel sad at the same time... but mostly smile.

FROM RAMBLING BONES TO RAMBLING BABOON

I had fun listening to bands on Saturday night at the Bo and not so much fun avoiding the roadblock just around the corner on my way home. Luckily, I'd been given a warning from Frans, part of Jet Black Camaro, a band I'm sure I shall post about soon, so I got home safely and sent out some embarrassing sms's just to spice up my Sunday with the cringe factor.

Rambling Bones and his Bloody Agents are just too much blarry fun – these dudes have all been involved in their own projects over the years so are each accomplished musicians in their own right – and accomplished at skullduggery too...ahem. (Note on my 'accomplished musician' quote: an accomplished musician I am not so how would I know if they are? Perhaps I should have said accomplished 'havers of fun', because I too am accomplished at that. This really shows on stage, with them, not me. Good, good vibes, from them...and me.) 

My favourite song is Sail Away (not an Enya cover – har har) but all of the songs are great. I like their baboon song too. So thank you Jay, Leighton and Eric, and everybody else at the Bo who made it such a fun night.

I stress the 'not me' on stage part of the paragraph because I am soon to make my debut on stage at the ripe old age of 29 and I am not afraid to say that I am terrified. The gig is with Dirty Uncle Gav and it's in 2 weeks and that's about all I know. I'm not sure if I'll post the details cause I might not want anyone to be there but what I am willing to divulge is my favourite lyrics out of the songs I will sing so far are : 'I start changing my mind, I go crazy, then there's trouble'.

SLIDE GUITAR JAM SESSIONS AND SWAMP SONGS

I had a totally new experience last night – Red Lorri and I stopped in @ Dirty Gav's place at the Linden Massive and Jacqui VS was there. The four of us ended up getting stuck into such an intense jam session (I played, kinda, slide guitar for the first time!!) that when we ended it felt like I'd been flying through the galaxy with no concept of time - shoowaa! We were all kinda sad that there was no recording of what had just taken place because I think none of us were quite sure what had just happened. Friggen awesome. A-WEH-SOME!

On a slightly different tangent, this is the music I've been listening to for the last few days - kinda dark and dirty: M. Ward's 'Sad,sad song', which made me think of the True Blood theme tune, Bad Things by Jace Everett, which then made me think of Danzig's song, Thirteen. 

  

Clearly I'm in a swampy, sexy and sweaty, deep south combined with a raucously skeptical Vegas kind of space. Not a bad space to be.

Plans for this gloriously sunny day in Jozi? Goin to my favourite sleazy bar, the Bo, and watching my favourite SA folk misfits,Rambling Bones and his Bloody Agents. But before that I think I shall have an afternoon snooze in the sun and if I'm lucky, do a few bad things with you. Prrrrrr

VOTING DAY HERE IN BEAUTIFUL SA

It was voting day here in SA and they sure picked a beautiful day do have it. Jozi has these crisp and sunny winter days and today was one of the best so far. People were all smiles at the voting station i was at – guess all our elections will always be reminiscent of the momentous '94 elections in which 'non-whites' were allowed to vote for the first time – a beautiful moment in history.

I think I'm saying beautiful a lot...

Voter's Roll is a song about these 2011 elections by Jozi local Henk Lustig with some colab from my big brother Huey Voodoo. Definitely worth a listen. 

Dirty Uncle and Razor Blades is on its way- promise. 

HELLO WORLD

Well, I doubt it's the world reading this... I hope it isnt.

But hello to friends of mine who are kind enough to check this out- hopefully it will grow into something you dig to read. 

Tonight's agenda? Not much, just juffed i figured this out without the help of Tinks or G-dog having to give my screen "The Green Eye". 

I am listening to some blues and jazz, unpretentiously I swear, and i am gonna print the music for some of them out and learn them, unpretentiously i swear, on my little kitaar, and then post them up here along with all the other miscellaneous music i shall post.
